This recipe of green peas and paneer can also be made vegan by sub the paneer for the tofu.
In this simple paneer recipe, Paneer pieces and green peas are simmered in spicy onion-tomato gravy. It is a very popular dish across the world. You can find in almost all Indian restaurant menu.
No vegetarian Indian meal is complete without paneer!
Whether its wedding or any other occasion, you will find matar paneer on most occasions.
This simple Punjabi dish is perfect for any parties, gettogether or pot-lucks.
Matter Paneer curry is rich in proteins. Peas and Paneer are packed with proteins and are low in carbohydrates.
My family loves this curry. I do make it at least once a month as this is light, comforting and healthy.
Today I have made this gravy without adding any heavy cream. But you can add heavy cream if you wish to.
Everyone has their own version of making Mutter Paneer at home. Some make it a little bit chunky, some make it smooth.
I prefer mine creamy, blended and sieved instead of chunky with all the onion and tomatoes bits separate.
So I just use an immersion blender to give it a smooth texture.
To make this curry creamier, I have added cashews.

How to make Matar Paneer on the stove top? Step by step process of making Matar paneer at home.
Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a pan. Add paneer cubes in it and saute paneer from both the sides until golden brown in color. Keep it aside.
Heat oil in another pan. Add cumin seeds. when cumin seeds crackle, add ginger, garlic, cashews, onion, and tomatoes. Saute it for 10 minutes over medium heat or until everything is fully cooked. Let it cools down.
Take this onion-tomato mixture into a blender. Grind it and sieve it very well. You can grind it with immersion blender too.
Place this gravy into a pan. Switch on the flame. Add chili powder, turmeric powder, kitchen king masala, kasuri methi, and sugar. Mix them well. Cook this gravy for 5 minutes over medium heat.
Add paneer cubes and green peas into this gravy and again cook it for 8 to 10 minutes over medium heat.
Matar paneer is ready. Serve it with Roti, Plain Paratha, Naan, Kulcha or even with Rice.
How to make Instant Pot Matar Paneer? (Step by step video of making Instant Pot Mutter Paneer is given in recipe card)

Turn on saute mode. Heat 2 tablespoon oil in Instant Pot.
Add cumin seeds. when cumin seeds crackle, add ginger, garlic, cashews, onion, and tomatoes. Saute it for a minute.
Cover the Instant pot, press the manual/pressure button. Set the time for 5 minutes under high pressure, vent valve on sealing position.
Let the pressure release naturally.
Open the lid.
Take this onion-tomato mixture into a blender. Grind it and sieve it very well. You can grind it with immersion blender too.
Place this gravy into the inner pot. turn on the saute mode. Add salt, chili powder, turmeric powder, kitchen king masala, kasuri methi, and sugar. Stir well.
Add paneer cubes and green peas into this gravy and Mix them well. Cook this gravy for 2 minutes.
Matar paneer is ready. Serve it with Roti, Plain Paratha, Naan, Kulcha or even with Rice.

Ingredients
- 250 gram paneer
- 1 cup - Matar / Green Peas I have used frozen
- 2 cups - Roughly chopped Tomatoes
- ½ cup - Roughly chopped onion
- 5 to 6 - Garlic cloves
- 1 inch - Ginger
- ¼ cup - Cashew nuts
- 1 tablespoon - Chili powder
- 1 tablespoon - Kitchen king masala
- Salt to taste
- ¼ teaspoon - Pinch of turmeric
- 1 teaspoon - Sugar as per sourness of tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon - Kasuri methi
- 3 tablespoon Oil For paneer and gravy
- 1 teaspoon - Cumin seeds

Matar Paneer On Stove top
