Chhole is a popular Punjabi dish in Indian Cuisine. The key Ingredient is chickpeas. This curry is fairly dry, spicy and sour. Along with chickpeas, the ingredients typically include onion, chopped tomatoes and chana masala.
In India, it is often eaten with a type of fried bread and is known as chhole bhature. It is commonly sold by street vendors but also can be found in restaurants. In Kerala, white appam and Chana Masala is one of the main dishes for breakfast.
This recipe would feed 2-3 people.
Finely chopped onions – 1 cup
Finely chopped tomatoes – 1 cup
Oil – 2 tbsp
Salt to taste
Chili powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric – 1/2 tsp
Chhole masala – 1 tbsp
Boiled Chick peas/Chhole – 2 cup
Kasuri methi – 1/2 tsp
Amchur Powder – 1 tsp
Cilantro/Coriander for garnishing
1. Heat oil in a pan. Add chopped onion and tomatoes. Saute it for 5-6 minutes on a medium to high heat.
2. Add Salt, Chili powder, Turmeric,Amchur powder and Chhole masala. Mix it very well.
3. Add boiled chickpeas. Cook it for 7-8 minutes on a medium flame. Add water at this point if you don’t want dry curry. Add Kasuri methi and mix well.
4. Garnish it with cilantro. Serve it with Bhature or Puri.
