When the holiday season comes around, it’s great to have simple recipes that not only taste amazing but also look impressive without taking up your whole day to prepare. You want your dishes to feel special, but not too fancy - something a bit more sophisticated than your everyday meals.
That’s where this delightful Masala Cranberry Salsa, paired with a creamy ricotta-and-goat-cheese dip, comes in!
I absolutely love using cranberries during the fall and winter. In addition to baking treats like walnut-cranberry bread and cranberry cookies, I’ve started using cranberries in other dishes, too. After trying out a cranberry brie dip, I thought it would be fun to create a ricotta dip with goat cheese.
You may have had cranberry salsa before, but have you ever tried it with a hint of Indian spices? A couple of years ago, I made a Masala Cranberry Salsa, and I fell in love with it. So, why not pair this flavorful salsa with a smooth whipped ricotta and goat cheese spread? To my delight, it turned out so good!
It is an excellent appetizer for Thanksgiving or Christmas and perfect on naan bites, baguette slices, pita chips, buttery crackers, and much more. Best of all, you only need a few ingredients, making it easy to prepare and minimizing your holiday cooking stress without sacrificing taste. Plus, look at how beautiful it is! It’s a great way to add a touch of elegance to your holiday table with minimal effort - no one will guess that you quickly whipped it all up in a food processor!
Ingredients

For Whipped ricotta and goat cheese
- Ricotta Cheese: Use whole-milk ricotta for a creamier, richer taste.
- Goat Cheese: Check the label if you’re vegetarian, as some goat cheeses contain animal rennet. I found a good one at Trader Joe’s.
- Milk: A little milk helps to whip the ricotta and goat cheese to the right texture.
- Lemon Juice: This adds a nice tangy flavor.
- Olive Oil: Choose good-quality extra virgin olive oil for the best taste.

For Masala Cranberry Salsa
- Cranberries: Use only fresh cranberries; avoid frozen ones, as they can become too soft and watery.
- Flavorings: You’ll need fresh garlic, fresh cilantro, and some Indian spices like chaat masala, red chili powder, black salt, roasted cumin, and garam masala to create a tasty balance with the cranberries.
- Jaggery: This is a type of unrefined sugar that adds sweetness! You can add sugar instead of jaggery. Garnish: Chopped pistachios, green onions, and cilantro.
