I love making salad dressings at home. If you remember, two weeks ago, I have shared the recipe of Creamy dill salad dressing.
Why should we make our own Salad Dressing?
Homemade Salad Dressing is simple, easy and comes together in minutes. It tastes delicious preservative-free and less expensive.
Vinaigrette / Dressing is made with oil, balsamic and orange is one of my favorites.
It’s a citrus season in Arizona. Last weekend, we went to the citrus farm for u-pick and had an amazing time.
From there we picked lots for oranges, grapefruits, and lemons.
We use lots of lemon in our Indian cooking. One of my favorite way of using lemon is making homemade Lemonade Syrup. It comes very handy in summer.
We have picked a variety of oranges like Juice orange, mandarin orange, Clementine, tangelo etc.
Ingredients Used in making Homemade Vegan Salad Dressing – Orange Vinaigrette –
Orange juice and Orange zest –
From so many varieties of oranges we have picked from the farm, I have used Juice oranges Juice to make this homemade salad dressing.
Zest Tip – First zest the orange for zest and then take out the juice.
Oil –
We love Extra virgin olive oil in our orange dressing. You can always choose light olive oil or something like grapeseed oil, or you can even swap in a touch of nut oil like hazelnut oil or walnut oil, to give Asian vibe, you may use sesame oil too.
But use the best quality oil. It tastes the best.
Vinegar –
I love balsamic vinegar in my salad dressings. Balsamic Vinegar is bold in flavor and lends a wonderful tart+sweet flavor to the dressing. But you can use apple cider or rice vinegar.
If you don’t have any kind of vinegar on hand, use lemon juice.
Sweetener –
As a sweetener, I have added agave. But you can use Honey (If not making it vegan) too.
Seasoning –
On top of salt and pepper, I have also used grated garlic and Grated shallots.
Vegan Mayonnaise
Mayonnaise adds flavor and acts as an emulsifier. You can also use Vegan Mustard sauce instead of Mayo.
That’s all we need to make this refreshing citrus dressing – Orange Vinaigrette. Once you gather all the ingredients, next comes the mixing part.
Add all of the ingredients to a small bowl and whisk until all of the ingredients come together. That’s it! You can also shake dressing in a mason jar.
Once it’s mixed, just taste the dressing and adjust the seasoning if you like. For the more accurate idea, dip a cucumber or any salad leaf into the dressing, shake off the excess and try.
