Marinara sauce is an Italian sauce that originated in Naples, usually made with tomatoes, garlic, herbs, and onions. Homemade Marinara Sauce is very easy and fast to make. It tastes way better than store bought. It is made with very basic ingredients. The main thing required is a healthy dose of patience; the longer it simmers, the better it is.
Finely chopped onion – 1 cup
Minced garlic – 1 tsp
Olive oil – 2 tbsp
Canned crushed tomatoes – 16 oz
Fresh basil – 2 tbsp
Salt and pepper to taste
Chili Flakes – 1 tsp
Dried Oregano – 1 tsp
1. In a sauce pan, heat olive oil. Add onion and garlic on a medium heat for about 5 minutes or until onion and garlic are soft and translucent.
2. Add can of crushed tomatoes and half of the basil. Season with salt, pepper, chili flakes and oregano.
3. Cover the sauce pan and cook them for about 20 to 30 minutes over medium to low heat.
4. Garnish it with remaining basil. Your Homemade Marinara Sauce is ready. Boil the pasta and toss it with marinara sauce, sprinkle some Parmesan cheese and serve hot.
