That Simple!!
I am obsessed with this Homemade Instant Pot Hummus Recipe. Making Hummus at home is so easy and it’ll be far tastier than anything you’ll buy at the store. All you need is a few ingredients and a few minutes.
Let’s talk about Hummus.
What is Hummus?
Hummus or Houmous is a Middle Eastern Dip/Spread. It has been enjoyed in Middle Eastern and North African countries but nowadays Hummus is commonly eaten across the World. Hummus is commonly consumed with every meal in Israel.
What’s Hummus Made Of? What are the basic Hummus Ingredients?
Hummus is made of Cooked Chickpeas, Tahini, Garlic, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Lemon Juice and Salt. Puree Hummus ingredients in Vitamix or in another food processor, top with some red pepper, Parsley and a swirl of Olive oil, You’re done!!
You can make a much different variety of hummus like Red Pepper Hummus, Roasted bell pepper hummus, beetroot Hummus, Avocado Hummus, Cilantro Jalapeno Hummus, Spicy Hummus, Caramelized Onion Hummus Etc.
Is Hummus Healthy?
Hummus makes a great healthy alternative to spread like mayonnaise since it is loaded with more nutrients. Hummus is a good source of many vitamins and minerals. It is an excellent source of plant-based protein, a good source of Dietary Fiber, contains healthy fats and good for blood sugar.
Although Hummus is packed with many vitamins and minerals, it is important to eat in moderation. That’s because of hummus is also high in calories.
To Skin or Not to Skin the Chickpeas for Hummus?
If you want to make Hummus Extra creamy and smooth, I would recommend you to remove the skin off of the chickpeas. I really didn’t want to add extra time to make Hummus, so I just skip this part. But removing the skin makes a lot of difference. Skinless chickpeas make smoother and creamy Hummus.
Can we make Hummus recipe without Tahini?
Yes, you can make Hummus without Tahini or you can add Peanut butter instead of Tahini.
Can you use sesame seeds instead of tahini to make Instant Pot Hummus Recipe?
First, let me mention that this Instant Pot Hummus recipe uses Sesame seeds. Tahini is one of the key ingredients in making Hummus. Occasionally, I buy Trader Joe’s organic tahini. But I try to make my hummus with Sesame Seeds to save money. Store bought Tahini is a relatively expensive item and we don’t use for anything but Hummus. So sometimes I prefer not to use store bought Tahini and use Sesame seeds in this Easy Hummus recipe. Sesame Seeds are something it’s easy to keep on hand. They are inexpensive and I use a lot in making many Indian Dishes like Peanut sesame seeds beans, Eggplant curry and many more.
Some Important Note about Pressure Cooker Hummus with Garbanzo beans.
